The Morning Brightness

الضحى

Meccan (surah 93 • 11 ayahs)

»The surah that opens with the oath of the Divine One swearing by the THE MORNING BRIGHTNESS and the night when all falls still. It is named after “the morning brightness” (ḍūḥā), mentioned in verse 1. The surah is an address to the Prophet Muḥammad, to reassure him, when he had not received revelation for some time, that his Lord had not forsaken him.«

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

IN THE NAME OF ALLAH,

THE ALL-BENEFICENT, THE ALL-MERCIFUL.

القرآن:

والضحى

TRANSLATION:

By the morning brightness,

القرآن:

والليل إذا سجى

TRANSLATION:

by the night when it is calm!

القرآن:

ما ودعك ربك وما قلى

TRANSLATION:

Your Lord has neither forsaken you

nor is He displeased with you,

القرآن:

وللآخرة خير لك من الأولى

TRANSLATION:

and the Hereafter shall be better for you than the world.

القرآن:

ولسوف يعطيك ربك فترضى

TRANSLATION:

Soon your Lord will give you [that with which]

you will be pleased.

القرآن:

ألم يجدك يتيما فآوى

TRANSLATION:

Did He not find you an orphan, and shelter you?

القرآن:

ووجدك ضالا فهدى

TRANSLATION:

Did He not find you astray, and guide you?

8

القرآن:

ووجدك عائلا فأغنى

TRANSLATION:

Did He not find you needy, and enrich you?

9

القرآن:

فأما اليتيم فلا تقهر

TRANSLATION:

So, as for the orphan, do not oppress him;

10

القرآن:

وأما السائل فلا تنهر

TRANSLATION:

and as for the beggar, do not chide him;

11

القرآن:

وأما بنعمة ربك فحدث

TRANSLATION:

and as for your Lord’s blessing,

proclaim it!
