The Daybreak

الفلق

Meccan (surah 113 • 5 ayahs)

»The surah that opens with the mention of God as the Lord of THE DAYBREAK and that teaches one to seek refuge in Him from the evil in creation and from all who envy the blessings of God in others. It takes its name from “the daybreak” (al-falaq) mentioned in verse 1. The surah is used as an invocation against evil.«

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

IN THE NAME OF ALLAH,

THE ALL-BENEFICENT, THE ALL-MERCIFUL.

القرآن:

قل أعوذ برب الفلق

TRANSLATION:

Say, ‘I seek the protection of the Lord of the daybreak

القرآن:

من شر ما خلق

TRANSLATION:

from the evil of what He has created,

القرآن:

ومن شر غاسق إذا وقب

TRANSLATION:

and from the evil of the dark night when it settles,

القرآن:

ومن شر النفاثات في العقد

TRANSLATION:

and from the evil of the witches who blow on knots,

5

القرآن:

ومن شر حاسد إذا حسد

TRANSLATION:

and from the evil of the envious one when he envies.’
