بسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

طسم {1}

[Pickthal 26:1] Ta. Sin. Mim.

تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ الْمُبِينِ {2}

[Pickthal 26:2] These are revelations of the Scripture that maketh plain.

لَعَلَّكَ بَاخِعٌ نَفْسَكَ أَلَّا يَكُونُوا مُؤْمِنِينَ {3}

[Pickthal 26:3] It may be that thou tormentest thyself (O Muhammad) because they believe not.

إِنْ نَشَأْ نُنَزِّلْ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ آيَةً فَظَلَّتْ أَعْنَاقُهُمْ لَهَا خَاضِعِينَ {4}

[Pickthal 26:4] If We will, We can send down on them from the sky a portent so that their necks would remain bowed before it.

وَمَا يَأْتِيهِمْ مِنْ ذِكْرٍ مِنَ الرَّحْمَٰنِ مُحْدَثٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا عَنْهُ مُعْرِضِينَ {5}

[Pickthal 26:5] Never cometh there unto them a fresh reminder from the Beneficent One, but they turn away from it.

فَقَدْ كَذَّبُوا فَسَيَأْتِيهِمْ أَنْبَاءُ مَا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ {6}

[Pickthal 26:6] Now they have denied (the Truth); but there will come unto them tidings of that whereat they used to scoff.

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا إِلَى الْأَرْضِ كَمْ أَنْبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِنْ كُلِّ زَوْجٍ كَرِيمٍ {7}

[Pickthal 26:7] Have they not seen the earth, how much of every fruitful kind We make to grow therein?

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ {8}

[Pickthal 26:8] Lo! herein is indeed a portent; yet most of them are not believers.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ {9}

[Pickthal 26:9] And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.

وَإِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبُّكَ مُوسَىٰ أَنِ ائْتِ الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ {10}

[Pickthal 26:10] And when thy Lord called Moses, saying: Go unto the wrongdoing folk,

قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ أَلَا يَتَّقُونَ {11}

[Pickthal 26:11] The folk of Pharaoh. Will they not ward off (evil)?

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يُكَذِّبُونِ {12}

[Pickthal 26:12] He said: My Lord! Lo! I fear that they will deny me,

وَيَضِيقُ صَدْرِي وَلَا يَنْطَلِقُ لِسَانِي فَأَرْسِلْ إِلَىٰ هَارُونَ {13}

[Pickthal 26:13] And I shall be embarrassed, and my tongue will not speak plainly, therefor send for Aaron (to help me).

وَلَهُمْ عَلَيَّ ذَنْبٌ فَأَخَافُ أَنْ يَقْتُلُونِ {14}

[Pickthal 26:14] And they have a crime against me, so I fear that they will kill me.

قَالَ كَلَّا ۖ فَاذْهَبَا بِآيَاتِنَا ۖ إِنَّا مَعَكُمْ مُسْتَمِعُونَ {15}

[Pickthal 26:15] He said: Nay, verily. So go ye twain with Our tokens. Lo! We shall be with you, Hearing.

فَأْتِيَا فِرْعَوْنَ فَقُولَا إِنَّا رَسُولُ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ {16}

[Pickthal 26:16] And come together unto Pharaoh and say: Lo! we bear a message of the Lord of the Worlds,

أَنْ أَرْسِلْ مَعَنَا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ {17}

[Pickthal 26:17] (Saying): Let the Children of Israel go with us.

قَالَ أَلَمْ نُرَبِّكَ فِينَا وَلِيدًا وَلَبِثْتَ فِينَا مِنْ عُمُرِكَ سِنِينَ {18}

[Pickthal 26:18] (Pharaoh) said (unto Moses): Did we not rear thee among us as a child? And thou didst dwell many years of thy life among us,

وَفَعَلْتَ فَعْلَتَكَ الَّتِي فَعَلْتَ وَأَنْتَ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ {19}

[Pickthal 26:19] And thou didst that thy deed which thou didst, and thou wast one of the ingrates.

قَالَ فَعَلْتُهَا إِذًا وَأَنَا مِنَ الضَّالِّينَ {20}

[Pickthal 26:20] He said: I did it then, when I was of those who are astray.

فَفَرَرْتُ مِنْكُمْ لَمَّا خِفْتُكُمْ فَوَهَبَ لِي رَبِّي حُكْمًا وَجَعَلَنِي مِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ {21}

[Pickthal 26:21] Then I fled from you when I feared you, and my Lord vouchsafed me a command and appointed me (of the number) of those sent (by Him).

وَتِلْكَ نِعْمَةٌ تَمُنُّهَا عَلَيَّ أَنْ عَبَّدْتَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ {22}

[Pickthal 26:22] And this is the past favour wherewith thou reproachest me: that thou hast enslaved the Children of Israel.

قَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَا رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ {23}

[Pickthal 26:23] Pharaoh said: And what is the Lord of the Worlds?

قَالَ رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُوقِنِينَ {24}

[Pickthal 26:24] (Moses) said: Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye had but sure belief.

قَالَ لِمَنْ حَوْلَهُ أَلَا تَسْتَمِعُونَ {25}

[Pickthal 26:25] (Pharaoh) said unto those around him: Hear ye not?

قَالَ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ آبَائِكُمُ الْأَوَّلِينَ {26}

[Pickthal 26:26] He said: Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers.

قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَكُمُ الَّذِي أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ لَمَجْنُونٌ {27}

[Pickthal 26:27] (Pharaoh) said: Lo! your messenger who hath been sent unto you is indeed a madman!

قَالَ رَبُّ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ {28}

[Pickthal 26:28] He said: Lord of the East and the West and all that is between them, if ye did but understand.

قَالَ لَئِنِ اتَّخَذْتَ إِلَٰهًا غَيْرِي لَأَجْعَلَنَّكَ مِنَ الْمَسْجُونِينَ {29}

[Pickthal 26:29] (Pharaoh) said: If thou choosest a god other than me, I assuredly shall place thee among the prisoners.

قَالَ أَوَلَوْ جِئْتُكَ بِشَيْءٍ مُبِينٍ {30}

[Pickthal 26:30] He said: Even though I show thee something plain?

قَالَ فَأْتِ بِهِ إِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ {31}

[Pickthal 26:31] (Pharaoh) said: Produce it then, if thou art of the truthful!

فَأَلْقَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ ثُعْبَانٌ مُبِينٌ {32}

[Pickthal 26:32] Then he flung down his staff and it became a serpent manifest,

وَنَزَعَ يَدَهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ بَيْضَاءُ لِلنَّاظِرِينَ {33}

[Pickthal 26:33] And he drew forth his hand and lo! it was white to the beholders.

قَالَ لِلْمَلَإِ حَوْلَهُ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَسَاحِرٌ عَلِيمٌ {34}

[Pickthal 26:34] (Pharaoh) said unto the chiefs about him: Lo! this is verily a knowing wizard,

يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُخْرِجَكُمْ مِنْ أَرْضِكُمْ بِسِحْرِهِ فَمَاذَا تَأْمُرُونَ {35}

[Pickthal 26:35] Who would drive you out of your land by his magic. Now what counsel ye?

قَالُوا أَرْجِهْ وَأَخَاهُ وَابْعَثْ فِي الْمَدَائِنِ حَاشِرِينَ {36}

[Pickthal 26:36] They said: Put him off, (him) and his brother, and send into the cities summoners

يَأْتُوكَ بِكُلِّ سَحَّارٍ عَلِيمٍ {37}

[Pickthal 26:37] Who shall bring unto thee every knowing wizard.

فَجُمِعَ السَّحَرَةُ لِمِيقَاتِ يَوْمٍ مَعْلُومٍ {38}

[Pickthal 26:38] So the wizards were gathered together at a set time on a day appointed.

وَقِيلَ لِلنَّاسِ هَلْ أَنْتُمْ مُجْتَمِعُونَ {39}

[Pickthal 26:39] And it was said unto the people: Are ye (also) gathering?

لَعَلَّنَا نَتَّبِعُ السَّحَرَةَ إِنْ كَانُوا هُمُ الْغَالِبِينَ {40}

[Pickthal 26:40] (They said): Aye, so that we may follow the wizards if they are the winners.

فَلَمَّا جَاءَ السَّحَرَةُ قَالُوا لِفِرْعَوْنَ أَئِنَّ لَنَا لَأَجْرًا إِنْ كُنَّا نَحْنُ الْغَالِبِينَ {41}

[Pickthal 26:41] And when the wizards came they said unto Pharaoh: Will there surely be a reward for us if we are the winners?

قَالَ نَعَمْ وَإِنَّكُمْ إِذًا لَمِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ {42}

[Pickthal 26:42] He said: Aye, and ye will then surely be of those brought near (to me).

قَالَ لَهُمْ مُوسَىٰ أَلْقُوا مَا أَنْتُمْ مُلْقُونَ {43}

[Pickthal 26:43] Moses said unto them: Throw what ye are going to throw!

فَأَلْقَوْا حِبَالَهُمْ وَعِصِيَّهُمْ وَقَالُوا بِعِزَّةِ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّا لَنَحْنُ الْغَالِبُونَ {44}

[Pickthal 26:44] Then they threw down their cords and their staves and said: By Pharaoh’s might, lo! we verily are the winners.

فَأَلْقَىٰ مُوسَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ تَلْقَفُ مَا يَأْفِكُونَ {45}

[Pickthal 26:45] Then Moses threw his staff and lo! it swallowed that which they did falsely show.

فَأُلْقِيَ السَّحَرَةُ سَاجِدِينَ {46}

[Pickthal 26:46] And the wizards were flung prostrate,

قَالُوا آمَنَّا بِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ {47}

[Pickthal 26:47] Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,

رَبِّ مُوسَىٰ وَهَارُونَ {48}

[Pickthal 26:48] The Lord of Moses and Aaron.

قَالَ آمَنْتُمْ لَهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ آذَنَ لَكُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُ لَكَبِيرُكُمُ الَّذِي عَلَّمَكُمُ السِّحْرَ فَلَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ ۚ لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُمْ مِنْ خِلَافٍ وَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ {49}

[Pickthal 26:49] (Pharaoh) said: Ye put your faith in him before I give you leave. Lo! he doubtless is your chief who taught you magic! But verily ye shall come to know. Verily I will cut off your hands and your feet alternately, and verily I will crucify you every one.

قَالُوا لَا ضَيْرَ ۖ إِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا مُنْقَلِبُونَ {50}

[Pickthal 26:50] They said: It is no hurt, for lo! unto our Lord we shall return.

إِنَّا نَطْمَعُ أَنْ يَغْفِرَ لَنَا رَبُّنَا خَطَايَانَا أَنْ كُنَّا أَوَّلَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ {51}

[Pickthal 26:51] Lo! we ardently hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins because we are the first of the believers.

وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ أَنْ أَسْرِ بِعِبَادِي إِنَّكُمْ مُتَّبَعُونَ {52}

[Pickthal 26:52] And We inspired Moses, saying: Take away My slaves by night, for ye will be pursued.

فَأَرْسَلَ فِرْعَوْنُ فِي الْمَدَائِنِ حَاشِرِينَ {53}

[Pickthal 26:53] Then Pharaoh sent into the cities summoners,

إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ لَشِرْذِمَةٌ قَلِيلُونَ {54}

[Pickthal 26:54] (Who said): Lo! these indeed are but a little troop,

وَإِنَّهُمْ لَنَا لَغَائِظُونَ {55}

[Pickthal 26:55] And lo! they are offenders against us.

وَإِنَّا لَجَمِيعٌ حَاذِرُونَ {56}

[Pickthal 26:56] And lo! we are a ready host.

فَأَخْرَجْنَاهُمْ مِنْ جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ {57}

[Pickthal 26:57] Thus did We take them away from gardens and watersprings,

وَكُنُوزٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ {58}

[Pickthal 26:58] And treasures and a fair estate.

كَذَٰلِكَ وَأَوْرَثْنَاهَا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ {59}

[Pickthal 26:59] Thus (were those things taken from them) and We caused the Children of Israel to inherit them.

فَأَتْبَعُوهُمْ مُشْرِقِينَ {60}

[Pickthal 26:60] And they overtook them at sunrise.

فَلَمَّا تَرَاءَى الْجَمْعَانِ قَالَ أَصْحَابُ مُوسَىٰ إِنَّا لَمُدْرَكُونَ {61}

[Pickthal 26:61] And when the two hosts saw each other, those with Moses said: Lo! we are indeed caught.

قَالَ كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّ مَعِيَ رَبِّي سَيَهْدِينِ {62}

[Pickthal 26:62] He said: Nay, verily! for lo! my Lord is with me. He will guide me.

فَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ أَنِ اضْرِبْ بِعَصَاكَ الْبَحْرَ ۖ فَانْفَلَقَ فَكَانَ كُلُّ فِرْقٍ كَالطَّوْدِ الْعَظِيمِ {63}

[Pickthal 26:63] Then We inspired Moses, saying: Smite the sea with thy staff. And it parted, and each part was as a mountain vast.

وَأَزْلَفْنَا ثَمَّ الْآخَرِينَ {64}

[Pickthal 26:64] Then brought We near the others to that place.

وَأَنْجَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ وَمَنْ مَعَهُ أَجْمَعِينَ {65}

[Pickthal 26:65] And We saved Moses and those with him, every one;

ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا الْآخَرِينَ {66}

[Pickthal 26:66] And We drowned the others.

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ {67}

[Pickthal 26:67] Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ {68}

[Pickthal 26:68] And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.

وَاتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَأَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ {69}

[Pickthal 26:69] Recite unto them the story of Abraham:

إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ {70}

[Pickthal 26:70] When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye?

قَالُوا نَعْبُدُ أَصْنَامًا فَنَظَلُّ لَهَا عَاكِفِينَ {71}

[Pickthal 26:71] They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them.

قَالَ هَلْ يَسْمَعُونَكُمْ إِذْ تَدْعُونَ {72}

[Pickthal 26:72] He said: Do they hear you when ye cry?

أَوْ يَنْفَعُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَضُرُّونَ {73}

[Pickthal 26:73] Or do they benefit or harm you?

قَالُوا بَلْ وَجَدْنَا آبَاءَنَا كَذَٰلِكَ يَفْعَلُونَ {74}

[Pickthal 26:74] They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise.

قَالَ أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْبُدُونَ {75}

[Pickthal 26:75] He said: See now that which ye worship,

أَنْتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُمُ الْأَقْدَمُونَ {76}

[Pickthal 26:76] Ye and your forefathers!

فَإِنَّهُمْ عَدُوٌّ لِي إِلَّا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ {77}

[Pickthal 26:77] Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds,

الَّذِي خَلَقَنِي فَهُوَ يَهْدِينِ {78}

[Pickthal 26:78] Who created me, and He doth guide me,

وَالَّذِي هُوَ يُطْعِمُنِي وَيَسْقِينِ {79}

[Pickthal 26:79] And Who feedeth me and watereth me.

وَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِينِ {80}

[Pickthal 26:80] And when I sicken, then He healeth me,

وَالَّذِي يُمِيتُنِي ثُمَّ يُحْيِينِ {81}

[Pickthal 26:81] And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again),

وَالَّذِي أَطْمَعُ أَنْ يَغْفِرَ لِي خَطِيئَتِي يَوْمَ الدِّينِ {82}

[Pickthal 26:82] And Who, I ardently hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment.

رَبِّ هَبْ لِي حُكْمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِينَ {83}

[Pickthal 26:83] My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous.

وَاجْعَلْ لِي لِسَانَ صِدْقٍ فِي الْآخِرِينَ {84}

[Pickthal 26:84] And give unto me a good report in later generations.

وَاجْعَلْنِي مِنْ وَرَثَةِ جَنَّةِ النَّعِيمِ {85}

[Pickthal 26:85] And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight,

وَاغْفِرْ لِأَبِي إِنَّهُ كَانَ مِنَ الضَّالِّينَ {86}

[Pickthal 26:86] And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err.

وَلَا تُخْزِنِي يَوْمَ يُبْعَثُونَ {87}

[Pickthal 26:87] And abase me not on the day when they are raised,

يَوْمَ لَا يَنْفَعُ مَالٌ وَلَا بَنُونَ {88}

[Pickthal 26:88] The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man)

إِلَّا مَنْ أَتَى اللَّهَ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ {89}

[Pickthal 26:89] Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart.

وَأُزْلِفَتِ الْجَنَّةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ {90}

[Pickthal 26:90] And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil).

وَبُرِّزَتِ الْجَحِيمُ لِلْغَاوِينَ {91}

[Pickthal 26:91] And hell will appear plainly to the erring.

وَقِيلَ لَهُمْ أَيْنَ مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْبُدُونَ {92}

[Pickthal 26:92] And it will be said unto them: Where is (all) that ye used to worship

مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ هَلْ يَنْصُرُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَنْتَصِرُونَ {93}

[Pickthal 26:93] Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?

فَكُبْكِبُوا فِيهَا هُمْ وَالْغَاوُونَ {94}

[Pickthal 26:94] Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers

وَجُنُودُ إِبْلِيسَ أَجْمَعُونَ {95}

[Pickthal 26:95] And the hosts of Iblis, together.

قَالُوا وَهُمْ فِيهَا يَخْتَصِمُونَ {96}

[Pickthal 26:96] And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein:

تَاللَّهِ إِنْ كُنَّا لَفِي ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ {97}

[Pickthal 26:97] By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest

إِذْ نُسَوِّيكُمْ بِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ {98}

[Pickthal 26:98] When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds.

وَمَا أَضَلَّنَا إِلَّا الْمُجْرِمُونَ {99}

[Pickthal 26:99] It was but the guilty who misled us.

فَمَا لَنَا مِنْ شَافِعِينَ {100}

[Pickthal 26:100] Now we have no intercessors

وَلَا صَدِيقٍ حَمِيمٍ {101}

[Pickthal 26:101] Nor any loving friend.

فَلَوْ أَنَّ لَنَا كَرَّةً فَنَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ {102}

[Pickthal 26:102] Oh, that we had another turn (on earth), that we might be of the believers!

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ {103}

[Pickthal 26:103] Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers!

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ {104}

[Pickthal 26:104] And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.

كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ الْمُرْسَلِينَ {105}

[Pickthal 26:105] Noah’s folk denied the messengers (of Allah),

إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ نُوحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ {106}

[Pickthal 26:106] When their brother Noah said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)?

إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ {107}

[Pickthal 26:107] Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you,

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ {108}

[Pickthal 26:108] So keep your duty to Allah, and obey me.

وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ {109}

[Pickthal 26:109] And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds.

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ {110}

[Pickthal 26:110] So keep your duty to Allah, and obey me.

قَالُوا أَنُؤْمِنُ لَكَ وَاتَّبَعَكَ الْأَرْذَلُونَ {111}

[Pickthal 26:111] They said: Shall we put faith in thee, when the lowest (of the people) follow thee?

قَالَ وَمَا عِلْمِي بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ {112}

[Pickthal 26:112] He said: And what knowledge have I of what they may have been doing (in the past)?

إِنْ حِسَابُهُمْ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّي ۖ لَوْ تَشْعُرُونَ {113}

[Pickthal 26:113] Lo! their reckoning is my Lord’s concern, if ye but knew;

وَمَا أَنَا بِطَارِدِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ {114}

[Pickthal 26:114] And I am not (here) to repulse believers.

إِنْ أَنَا إِلَّا نَذِيرٌ مُبِينٌ {115}

[Pickthal 26:115] I am only a plain warner.

قَالُوا لَئِنْ لَمْ تَنْتَهِ يَا نُوحُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْمَرْجُومِينَ {116}

[Pickthal 26:116] They said: If thou cease not, O Noah, thou wilt surely be among those stoned (to death).

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنَّ قَوْمِي كَذَّبُونِ {117}

[Pickthal 26:117] He said: My Lord! Lo! my own folk deny me.

فَافْتَحْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُمْ فَتْحًا وَنَجِّنِي وَمَنْ مَعِيَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ {118}

[Pickthal 26:118] Therefor judge Thou between us, a (conclusive) judgment, and save me and those believers who are with me.

فَأَنْجَيْنَاهُ وَمَنْ مَعَهُ فِي الْفُلْكِ الْمَشْحُونِ {119}

[Pickthal 26:119] And We saved him and those with him in the laden ship.

ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا بَعْدُ الْبَاقِينَ {120}

[Pickthal 26:120] Then afterward We drowned the others.

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ {121}

[Pickthal 26:121] Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ {122}

[Pickthal 26:122] And lo, thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.

كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ الْمُرْسَلِينَ {123}

[Pickthal 26:123] (The tribe of) A’ad denied the messengers (of Allah).

إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ هُودٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ {124}

[Pickthal 26:124] When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)?

إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ {125}

[Pickthal 26:125] Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you,

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ {126}

[Pickthal 26:126] So keep your duty to Allah and obey me.

وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ {127}

[Pickthal 26:127] And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds.

أَتَبْنُونَ بِكُلِّ رِيعٍ آيَةً تَعْبَثُونَ {128}

[Pickthal 26:128] Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight?

وَتَتَّخِذُونَ مَصَانِعَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَخْلُدُونَ {129}

[Pickthal 26:129] And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever?

وَإِذَا بَطَشْتُمْ بَطَشْتُمْ جَبَّارِينَ {130}

[Pickthal 26:130] And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants?

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ {131}

[Pickthal 26:131] Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me.

وَاتَّقُوا الَّذِي أَمَدَّكُمْ بِمَا تَعْلَمُونَ {132}

[Pickthal 26:132] Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know,

أَمَدَّكُمْ بِأَنْعَامٍ وَبَنِينَ {133}

[Pickthal 26:133] Hath aided you with cattle and sons.

وَجَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ {134}

[Pickthal 26:134] And gardens and watersprings.

إِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ {135}

[Pickthal 26:135] Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day.

قَالُوا سَوَاءٌ عَلَيْنَا أَوَعَظْتَ أَمْ لَمْ تَكُنْ مِنَ الْوَاعِظِينَ {136}

[Pickthal 26:136] They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach;

إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا خُلُقُ الْأَوَّلِينَ {137}

[Pickthal 26:137] This is but a fable of the men of old,

وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ {138}

[Pickthal 26:138] And we shall not be doomed.

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَهْلَكْنَاهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ {139}

[Pickthal 26:139] And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ {140}

[Pickthal 26:140] And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ الْمُرْسَلِينَ {141}

[Pickthal 26:141] (The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah)

إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ صَالِحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ {142}

[Pickthal 26:142] When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)?

إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ {143}

[Pickthal 26:143] Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you,

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ {144}

[Pickthal 26:144] So keep your duty to Allah and obey me.

وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ {145}

[Pickthal 26:145] And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds.

أَتُتْرَكُونَ فِي مَا هَاهُنَا آمِنِينَ {146}

[Pickthal 26:146] Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us,

فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ {147}

[Pickthal 26:147] In gardens and watersprings.

وَزُرُوعٍ وَنَخْلٍ طَلْعُهَا هَضِيمٌ {148}

[Pickthal 26:148] And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees,

وَتَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا فَارِهِينَ {149}

[Pickthal 26:149] Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful?

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ {150}

[Pickthal 26:150] Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me,

وَلَا تُطِيعُوا أَمْرَ الْمُسْرِفِينَ {151}

[Pickthal 26:151] And obey not the command of the prodigal,

الَّذِينَ يُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا يُصْلِحُونَ {152}

[Pickthal 26:152] Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not.

قَالُوا إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ مِنَ الْمُسَحَّرِينَ {153}

[Pickthal 26:153] They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched;

مَا أَنْتَ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُنَا فَأْتِ بِآيَةٍ إِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ {154}

[Pickthal 26:154] Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful.

قَالَ هَٰذِهِ نَاقَةٌ لَهَا شِرْبٌ وَلَكُمْ شِرْبُ يَوْمٍ مَعْلُومٍ {155}

[Pickthal 26:155] He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day.

وَلَا تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوءٍ فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ {156}

[Pickthal 26:156] And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day.

فَعَقَرُوهَا فَأَصْبَحُوا نَادِمِينَ {157}

[Pickthal 26:157] But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent.

فَأَخَذَهُمُ الْعَذَابُ ۗ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ {158}

[Pickthal 26:158] So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ {159}

[Pickthal 26:159] And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.

كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍ الْمُرْسَلِينَ {160}

[Pickthal 26:160] The folk of Lot denied the messengers (of Allah),

إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ لُوطٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ {161}

[Pickthal 26:161] When their brother Lot said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)?

إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ {162}

[Pickthal 26:162] Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you,

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ {163}

[Pickthal 26:163] So keep your duty to Allah and obey me.

وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ {164}

[Pickthal 26:164] And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds.

أَتَأْتُونَ الذُّكْرَانَ مِنَ الْعَالَمِينَ {165}

[Pickthal 26:165] What! Of all creatures do ye come unto the males,

وَتَذَرُونَ مَا خَلَقَ لَكُمْ رَبُّكُمْ مِنْ أَزْوَاجِكُمْ ۚ بَلْ أَنْتُمْ قَوْمٌ عَادُونَ {166}

[Pickthal 26:166] And leave the wives your Lord created for you? Nay, but ye are froward folk.

قَالُوا لَئِنْ لَمْ تَنْتَهِ يَا لُوطُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْمُخْرَجِينَ {167}

[Pickthal 26:167] They said: If thou cease not, O Lot, thou wilt soon be of the outcast.

قَالَ إِنِّي لِعَمَلِكُمْ مِنَ الْقَالِينَ {168}

[Pickthal 26:168] He said: I am in truth of those who hate your conduct.

رَبِّ نَجِّنِي وَأَهْلِي مِمَّا يَعْمَلُونَ {169}

[Pickthal 26:169] My Lord! Save me and my household from what they do.

فَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ أَجْمَعِينَ {170}

[Pickthal 26:170] So We saved him and his household, every one,

إِلَّا عَجُوزًا فِي الْغَابِرِينَ {171}

[Pickthal 26:171] Save an old woman among those who stayed behind.

ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا الْآخَرِينَ {172}

[Pickthal 26:172] Then afterward We destroyed the others.

وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ مَطَرًا ۖ فَسَاءَ مَطَرُ الْمُنْذَرِينَ {173}

[Pickthal 26:173] And We rained on them a rain. And dreadful is the rain of those who have been warned.

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ {174}

[Pickthal 26:174] Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ {175}

[Pickthal 26:175] And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.

كَذَّبَ أَصْحَابُ الْأَيْكَةِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ {176}

[Pickthal 26:176] The dwellers in the wood (of Midian) denied the messengers (of Allah),

إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ شُعَيْبٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ {177}

[Pickthal 26:177] When Shu’eyb said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)?

إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ {178}

[Pickthal 26:178] Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you,

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ {179}

[Pickthal 26:179] So keep your duty to Allah and obey me.

وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ {180}

[Pickthal 26:180] And I ask of you no wage for it; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds.

أَوْفُوا الْكَيْلَ وَلَا تَكُونُوا مِنَ الْمُخْسِرِينَ {181}

[Pickthal 26:181] Give full measure, and be not of those who give less (than the due).

وَزِنُوا بِالْقِسْطَاسِ الْمُسْتَقِيمِ {182}

[Pickthal 26:182] And weigh with the true balance.

وَلَا تَبْخَسُوا النَّاسَ أَشْيَاءَهُمْ وَلَا تَعْثَوْا فِي الْأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِينَ {183}

[Pickthal 26:183] Wrong not mankind in their goods, and do not evil, making mischief, in the earth.

وَاتَّقُوا الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ وَالْجِبِلَّةَ الْأَوَّلِينَ {184}

[Pickthal 26:184] And keep your duty unto Him Who created you and the generations of the men of old.

قَالُوا إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ مِنَ الْمُسَحَّرِينَ {185}

[Pickthal 26:185] They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched;

وَمَا أَنْتَ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُنَا وَإِنْ نَظُنُّكَ لَمِنَ الْكَاذِبِينَ {186}

[Pickthal 26:186] Thou art but a mortal like us, and lo! we deem thee of the liars.

فَأَسْقِطْ عَلَيْنَا كِسَفًا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ إِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ {187}

[Pickthal 26:187] Then make fragments of the heaven fall upon us, if thou art of the truthful.

قَالَ رَبِّي أَعْلَمُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ {188}

[Pickthal 26:188] He said: My Lord is Best Aware of what ye do.

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَخَذَهُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمِ الظُّلَّةِ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ {189}

[Pickthal 26:189] But they denied him, so there came on them the retribution of the day of gloom. Lo! it was the retribution of an awful day.

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ {190}

[Pickthal 26:190] Lo! herein is indeed a portent; yet most of them are not believers.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ {191}

[Pickthal 26:191] And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.

وَإِنَّهُ لَتَنْزِيلُ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ {192}

[Pickthal 26:192] And lo! it is a revelation of the Lord of the Worlds,

نَزَلَ بِهِ الرُّوحُ الْأَمِينُ {193}

[Pickthal 26:193] Which the True Spirit hath brought down

عَلَىٰ قَلْبِكَ لِتَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُنْذِرِينَ {194}

[Pickthal 26:194] Upon thy heart, that thou mayst be (one) of the warners,

بِلِسَانٍ عَرَبِيٍّ مُبِينٍ {195}

[Pickthal 26:195] In plain Arabic speech.

وَإِنَّهُ لَفِي زُبُرِ الْأَوَّلِينَ {196}

[Pickthal 26:196] And lo! it is in the Scriptures of the men of old.

أَوَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُمْ آيَةً أَنْ يَعْلَمَهُ عُلَمَاءُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ {197}

[Pickthal 26:197] Is it not a token for them that the doctors of the Children of Israel know it?

وَلَوْ نَزَّلْنَاهُ عَلَىٰ بَعْضِ الْأَعْجَمِينَ {198}

[Pickthal 26:198] And if We had revealed it unto one of any other nation than the Arabs,

فَقَرَأَهُ عَلَيْهِمْ مَا كَانُوا بِهِ مُؤْمِنِينَ {199}

[Pickthal 26:199] And he had read it unto them, they would not have believed in it.

كَذَٰلِكَ سَلَكْنَاهُ فِي قُلُوبِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ {200}

[Pickthal 26:200] Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty.

لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ حَتَّىٰ يَرَوُا الْعَذَابَ الْأَلِيمَ {201}

[Pickthal 26:201] They will not believe in it till they behold the painful doom,

فَيَأْتِيَهُمْ بَغْتَةً وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ {202}

[Pickthal 26:202] So that it will come upon them suddenly, when they perceive not.

فَيَقُولُوا هَلْ نَحْنُ مُنْظَرُونَ {203}

[Pickthal 26:203] Then they will say: Are we to be reprieved?

أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ {204}

[Pickthal 26:204] Would they (now) hasten on Our doom?

أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ مَتَّعْنَاهُمْ سِنِينَ {205}

[Pickthal 26:205] Hast thou then seen, if We content them for (long) years,

ثُمَّ جَاءَهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ {206}

[Pickthal 26:206] And then cometh that which they were promised,

مَا أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يُمَتَّعُونَ {207}

[Pickthal 26:207] (How) that wherewith they were contented naught availeth them?

وَمَا أَهْلَكْنَا مِنْ قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا لَهَا مُنْذِرُونَ {208}

[Pickthal 26:208] And We destroyed no township but it had its warners

ذِكْرَىٰ وَمَا كُنَّا ظَالِمِينَ {209}

[Pickthal 26:209] For reminder, for We never were oppressors.

وَمَا تَنَزَّلَتْ بِهِ الشَّيَاطِينُ {210}

[Pickthal 26:210] The devils did not bring it down.

وَمَا يَنْبَغِي لَهُمْ وَمَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ {211}

[Pickthal 26:211] It is not meet for them, nor is it in their power,

إِنَّهُمْ عَنِ السَّمْعِ لَمَعْزُولُونَ {212}

[Pickthal 26:212] Lo! verily they are banished from the hearing.

فَلَا تَدْعُ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا آخَرَ فَتَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُعَذَّبِينَ {213}

[Pickthal 26:213] Therefor invoke not with Allah another god, lest thou be one of the doomed.

وَأَنْذِرْ عَشِيرَتَكَ الْأَقْرَبِينَ {214}

[Pickthal 26:214] And warn thy tribe of near kindred,

وَاخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِمَنِ اتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ {215}

[Pickthal 26:215] And lower thy wing (in kindness) unto those believers who follow thee.

فَإِنْ عَصَوْكَ فَقُلْ إِنِّي بَرِيءٌ مِمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ {216}

[Pickthal 26:216] And if they (thy kinsfolk) disobey thee, say: Lo! I am innocent of what they do.

وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى الْعَزِيزِ الرَّحِيمِ {217}

[Pickthal 26:217] And put thy trust in the Mighty, the Merciful.

الَّذِي يَرَاكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ {218}

[Pickthal 26:218] Who seeth thee when thou standest up (to pray)

وَتَقَلُّبَكَ فِي السَّاجِدِينَ {219}

[Pickthal 26:219] And (seeth) thine abasement among those who fall prostrate (in worship).

إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ {220}

[Pickthal 26:220] Lo! He, only He, is the Hearer, the Knower.

هَلْ أُنَبِّئُكُمْ عَلَىٰ مَنْ تَنَزَّلُ الشَّيَاطِينُ {221}

[Pickthal 26:221] Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend?

تَنَزَّلُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ أَفَّاكٍ أَثِيمٍ {222}

[Pickthal 26:222] They descend on every sinful, false one.

يُلْقُونَ السَّمْعَ وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ كَاذِبُونَ {223}

[Pickthal 26:223] They listen eagerly, but most of them are liars.

وَالشُّعَرَاءُ يَتَّبِعُهُمُ الْغَاوُونَ {224}

[Pickthal 26:224] As for poets, the erring follow them.

أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّهُمْ فِي كُلِّ وَادٍ يَهِيمُونَ {225}

[Pickthal 26:225] Hast thou not seen how they stray in every valley,

وَأَنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ مَا لَا يَفْعَلُونَ {226}

[Pickthal 26:226] And how they say that which they do not?

إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَذَكَرُوا اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا وَانْتَصَرُوا مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا ظُلِمُوا ۗ وَسَيَعْلَمُ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا أَيَّ مُنْقَلَبٍ يَنْقَلِبُونَ {227}

[Pickthal 26:227] Save those who believe and do good works, and remember Allah much, and vindicate themselves after they have been wronged. Those who do wrong will come to know by what a (great) reverse they will be overturned!
