FĀṬIR

The Originator

فاطر

Meccan (surah 35 • 45 ayahs)

»The surah that opens with the praise of God as THE ORIGINATOR of the heavens and the earth. It takes its name from the word “fāṭir” (orginator), which occurs in verse 1. The surah affirms God’s power and Creation and contrasts this with the powerlessness and uselessness of the “partners” set up by the idolaters. The surah warns the idolaters of their punishment and comforts the Prophet through mention of previous messengers who were also rejected as liars. The great rewards that await believers are described.«

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

IN THE NAME OF ALLAH,

THE ALL-BENEFICENT, THE ALL-MERCIFUL.

Cf. 31:33.

6

القرآن:

إن الشيطان لكم عدو فاتخذوه عدوا ۚ إنما يدعو حزبه ليكونوا من أصحاب السعير

Allah created you from dust, then from a drop of [seminal] fluid, then He made you mates.1 No female conceives or delivers except with His knowledge, and no elderly person advances in years, nor is anything diminished of his life, but it is [recorded] in a Book. That is indeed easy for Allah.

They shall cry therein for help: ‘Our Lord! Bring us out, so that we may act righteously —different from what we used to do!’ ‘Did We not give you a life long enough that one who is heedful might take admonition?
